Educational Programming

Grief Groups and Workshops for Everyone

We Have Programs For Everyone

Fortunately, awareness and acceptance of mental health issues have increased in recent years. SamaraCare’s educational and wellness programming is intended to help maintain this momentum. To continue to increase community understanding, we offer both in-person and virtual customized mental health presentations and workshops.

This programming provides an environment for participants to learn and practice usable skills that can help them in their daily life. These workshops are offered to schools, service clubs, congregations, local organizations and all interested groups.

Exploring Grief Groups

SamaraCare’s Exploring Grief Groups provide a safe and supportive environment for adults who have experienced the death of a spouse, friend, parent, partner, or other loved one.

This grief group helps:

  • Facilitate acceptance of grief and promote healing
  • Normalize the intense impact of grief
  • Provide a nonjudgmental space to share thoughts, process emotions, and receive support

This program is offered in an 8-week session. Four congregations have come together to sponsor the group, making it available to participants at no cost. An experienced SamaraCare group facilitator will guide the group, which consists of those from various spiritual orientations. Everyone is welcome. Please register as soon as possible as space is limited.

Upcoming sessions:

  • Meets Every Wednesday 6:30PM – 8:00PM
  • September 10th – October 29th (meeting virtually)
  • Also, second group will Meet Every Thursday 7:00pm-8:30pm October 16th- December 11th (a week off for Thanksgiving)

    Mindfulness Workshop for Older Adults

This 6-week series explores how to use Mindfulness to relieve stress. Mindfulness means deliberately paying attention and being fully aware of what is happening both inside yourself (body, heart and mind) and in your environment. Group participants (ages 55 and up) will meet for one hour weekly to learn and practice mindfulness. The sessions are guided by a licensed counselor and have both learning and practice components. No previous knowledge is required. There is a fee for this program.

    Premarital Workshop

This workshop is designed to help couples preparing for marriage to gain an understanding of how to handle some of the most common issues that occur in a relationship. This is a counselor-led, six-hour group workshop. It’s an excellent way to build a strong foundation for a healthy marriage. Topics include communication, managing conflict, forgiveness, intimacy, blending family backgrounds, and establishing shared financial goals. The workshop will help create a new understanding of each other and gain the coping skills needed to handle common marital issues in a positive way. There is a fee for this program.

    In-Person and Virtual Counseling

We offer both in-person and/or virtual counseling sessions. Both are HIPAA-compliant. Virtual (on-line) therapy consists of meeting with your therapist via a video conferencing platform on your computer, tablet or phone. Virtual counseling (teletherapy) is a relatively new way to receive care. If you’re thinking about it, here are some benefits to consider:

    • Convenience in meeting with a therapist from the comfort of your own home
    • No time spent traveling to appointments
    • Access to care providers with specialized expertise regardless of their geographic location

Many insurance companies now cover virtual therapy. Always check with your insurance provider regarding your coverage for mental health services.
